Leadership Outline
Peter Oââ¬â¢Brian COLL/148 Due: October 7, 2012 Week 5 Leadership Outline: 100 point I. Introduction My project is about Peter Oââ¬â¢Brian who completed the same major as myself but also doubled it with film. Something I look to doing in the near future. Oââ¬â¢Brian has a BA in Communications and in Film he is a Canadian Producer and is considered ââ¬Å"perhaps one of Canada's best-known film producersâ⬠(Kayne, 2003). Oââ¬â¢Brian is someone I aspire to be because of his background with my degree and with my passion for film. Oââ¬â¢Brian has overcome many obstacles and has built a beautiful foundation for future entrepreneurs to follow.Oââ¬â¢Brian is an expert in communications because he had to market himself to get funding for his films, he had to have Public relations abilities to self-promote his films and he had to gain an expertise in what he was doing. II. Your Field of Study I chose to do Communications because I liked the options for a career that cam e with it. With a Bachelorââ¬â¢s degree it gives me credibility for work I already do and can be combined with a degree such as film to make me the well rounded person I aspire to be. My expected graduation timeline is the spring of 2014 or that winter.I hope to graduate within this timeframe because of the projects I have planned for the same year. In order to get in that timeframe I will have to take extra classes and really push myself academically to achieve this. III. Who is the leader I chose Peter Oââ¬â¢Brian because he is a personal idol of mine and because his education background helped me when deciding my own. Oââ¬â¢Brian has a reputation of being a film maker who demonstrates in his movies relativeness and connections with the people who see his films. He illustrates characters that anyone can look up to and aspire to be.For film he has won 19 genie awards (Canadian Film Encyclopedia) and for communications he has demonstrated public relations skills to be his o wn publicist. IV. Characteristics of an effective leader An effective leader is creative and opened to new ideas (Vulliamy, 2010). I think Oââ¬â¢Brian has clearly demonstrated that. He has created his own production company and sits on many boards to better himself and his business (Canadian Film Encyclopedia). V. Define Your Leadership Qualities My leadership qualities are: being passionate/dedicated, assertive, magnanimity and open minded. My strengths are generating great ideas and getting people pumped to take action. From taking a personality test (Personality Test Center) from this course Iââ¬â¢ve learned that I fit into the career I have planned for myself. I also realized that I love to start projects but am not always so keen on finishing them; which is a HUGE problem for me. One personal strength I possess, that can help support success in the future, is that I am great at public speaking. I know how to handle myself in the public setting and also love the environment . A weakness it finishing projects, I love to get them started but when it comes to the middle work I drag.I love the ending work when all the middle work is done but it is a matter of being in the mood to do it. I am going to improve on this by at least trying to start or force myself to make head way and not wait to become ââ¬Å"inspiredâ⬠because that also can lead to procrastination of the project in itself. VI. Conclusion Peter Oââ¬â¢Brian is an evolutional film maker and self-publicist. He is someone I aspire to be like and with his success I feel that he can help motivate me to action and become the person I want to be. His educational background and the one I am pursuing go hand in hand and I feel that he is someone I can look up to.References Kaye, Janice. (2003, September 1). Email vs. Snail Mail
Throughout history people have communicated with each other in various ways. For instance, some used birds to transfer their messages while others used the smoke of fire to signal their friend who were far from them. Lately postal mail was used as a mean for correspondence, which was referred to as snail mail afterword. And with the invention of telegraph and development of civilization a new tool came in known as e-mail. There are significant discrepancies between snail mail and e-mail along with some common points.First of all, both tools are uses for communication in society, and they are both under risk in terms of confidentiality, but for different reasons. For instance, you cannot be secure that all post offices are safe enough to send your messages that are too personal or contain secret information about your workâ⬠¦ etc. E-mails suffer from the same problem but for different reasons. For example your computer can become a victim of hacking and a hacker can get your whole archive in a few seconds. Finally, once they are delivered to the wanted place there is no way going back.Although they share some common points, snail mail and e-mail are tremendously different in many ways. Firstly, e-mail is way a lot faster than snail mail, it enables you to delivers your message in the blink of an eye, whereas it might take days for a snail mail to receive the place you want. Secondly, for sending an e-mail all you need is an internet connection and you can send it to hundreds of people at once, nonetheless, you can send a snail mail once at a time and you have to pay for it respectively. Moreover, there are many options for editing an e-mail and sending different types of media files along with it, in contrast to snail mail with which you can only send text messages. In addition, nowadays people are very busy to memorize the address of all of their acquaintance, e-mail solves this too, you can save all of those confusing addresses in your account without any e ffort, for snail mail this option is not present. The last and most important difference is that using snail mail we actually use up our natural resources like paper and ink, yet e-mail is a tool the encourages sustainability because you neither use resources nor throw it away after using it. As a conclusion, we can say that although both e-mail and snail are similar to each other to some extent itââ¬â¢s clear that all ways lead to using e-mail and regarding snail mail as an obsolete way for communication.

Reflective Analysis Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Reflective Analysis Paper - Essay Example The book describes Maya as being a victim of racism and ignorance. In the book, the main character Maya Angelou and her family are African-Americans. The book originates in the 1930ââ¬â¢s to 1940ââ¬â¢s having examples of racist discrimination all through. Not only are the white people racists, but also reject, divide and are bad hearted to the African Americans. As the adage goes, when the going gets tough the tough keeps on going, the African Americans excelled through being smart and avoiding the racists. The black community as stated in the book is regular church attendees. Momma, Mayaââ¬â¢s grandmother is the most religious person in the book. Most black people usually like church activities because they believe God is never biased. Mayaââ¬â¢s white folks are not as kind as she expected as the whites had their heads high terming themselves superior because of a lighter skin. The whites expected to be treated with hospitality from other races but they would not return the favor. Black would walk out of the whiteââ¬â¢s way and address them with respect. In the case where Momma took Maya to the dentist he refused to treat her claiming that he would rather stick his finger in a dogââ¬â¢s mouth than hers.(Angelou 189) the doctor at this point was completely unfair and was a racist. Like everyone else, Maya is human and poses to have equal rights as everyone else. According to the Almighty, everyone is equal in his eyes and neither the whites nor the blacks are superior beings. The black community like Maya had to live on the remote side of the town while the whites lived on the opposite side never to associate with them. ââ¬Å"The peculiar pale beings who lived in their alien unlife were never attributed as folks, but were white folksâ⬠(Angelou 26). In those times, racism was very open and the whites never bothered about the blacks feelings. In the early 21st century, racism was just like in old times but now evolved in different ways. I n recent times, racism is experienced in employment. The government ended discrimination of persons in looking for jobs as an affirmative action. To some way, there was justice but that did not help to curb the whole issue. A supervisor at Best Buy was discriminated by being stuck at the same management level for more than seven years even though he had all the qualifications for promotion. People go through so much but they only persevere for the aim of gaining promotion or favored. This is very unfair to those who have to stoop so low so that they can be given the desired favors. Racism can be life threatening at the extreme level but its ones dignity that is crushed and lowered. Maya went through true racism and it is of uttermost good that racism has receded in recent times hence people do not suffer that much. Racism is practiced from generation to generatio

Political Science - What common features of small states Foreign Essay
Political Science - What common features of small states Foreign Policy distinguish it the most from Great powers Foreign Policy - Essay Example Foreign policy has deeper connotations with stated and un-stated objectives that a country to tries to fulfil through political, economic, military, and diplomatic means. Dean Rusk quoted by Seabury, interprets foreign policy as a ââ¬Å"galaxy of complicated factors.â⬠Hoffman quoted by Seabury too sees the current picture of international relations as ââ¬Å"the crisis of complexityâ⬠. He feels that in the past century the sheer dimension of international equilibrium has multiplied. States have added significantly to these dimensions with different manifestations of foreign policy under varying set of conditions. Foreign policy is a dependant variable conditioned by internal power configurations of the state (Wagner). As such foreign policies of small Asian, African, and Latin American states have foreign policies have changed with changes in the domestic power structures. Smaller states are more vulnerable to domestic and international changes as they show greater tenden cy to change foreign policy. Scholars have studied the changes in foreign policies of nations and dichotomised the international behaviour of great and small nations. Reiter, for example, infers how a small and a great power learn from their experiences of war to chalk to out their foreign policies. East for example cites Roseauââ¬â¢s observation that the size of a nation plays a great role in creation of its foreign policy. Small states never have permanent and extended interests in international arena as big powers. Other than studying foreign policy on the basis of ââ¬Ëgreatnessââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ësmallnessââ¬â¢ foreign policies have been studied in contrast to authoritarian regimes, traditional or modern societies or in stages of economic development (Pfaltzgraff,1974).
